| Q: |
Why are we hearing so much
about Pilates lately? |
| A: |
Because it works! The results from
Pilates are fast and long-lasting and works to revitalize the body like
no other form of fitness. "You will feel better in 10 sessions, look
better in 20 sessions, and have a completely different body in 30 sessions.
Pilates is made to order for those who desire the secret of eternal youth."
- Joseph Pilates. |
| Q: |
Who should do Pilates? |
| A: |
Pilates can benefit everyone. There
is a program that can be designed for nearly everyone at any age in any
condition provided they have a doctor's approval to take part in a fitness
program. |
| Q: |
Can Pilates help in other sports? |
| A: |
Yes, most sports (like golf and tennis)
involve the use of only one side of the body.
In Pilates,
you
do
the exercises for both sides of the body and as a result, it balances
the body and will improve your abilities in all sports including your
daily activities-- even if you just do house or yard work, it will make
you move and flow more naturally. You can do Pilates alone or in combination
with any other activity that you'd like. |
| Q: |
Can Pilates actually make you taller? |
| A: |
Absolutely. Not only does it permanently
improve your posture, but also actually makes you taller since the moves
were designed to increase blood flow to areas, thereby opening up and
widening the spaces between your disks and cartilage-- literally turning
back the clock and reversing the effects of aging on your body. Increases
of 1-3 inches in height are common. |
| Q: |
Can Pilates make you live longer? |
| A: |
Joseph H. Pilates and Mary Pilates
are proof that you can look and feel great well into your 80's. Not only
can Pilates improve your odds of living longer by making you fit inside
and out, cleansing and massaging every internal organ, muscle and tendon
in the body, but Pilates also makes you feel good and improves the quality
of your life during your lifetime. Pilates balances the mind and body
and gives you a sense of well-being. It is a complete lifestyle changing
experience and once people start doing it, they see and feel the results
and usually continue it forever. That is why Pilates is called "exercise
for a lifetime." |
| Q: |
Is Pilates expensive? I heard that
it can be over $100 per hour. |
| A: |
Joseph H. Pilates intended that Pilates
should be for everyone, not just limited to the rich and famous and elite
athletes. Joseph H. Pilates lived a very modest lifestyle and was not
a rich man, living in the back rooms of his New York Studio with his
wife Clara. He never intended Pilates to cost so much and therefore we
follow in his tradition by keeping our fees affordable to all. |
| Q: |
What makes your studio, Parkland Pilates,
unique? |
| A: |
We follow only Original Pilates®,
which is the exact method taught by Joseph H. Pilates and method taught
to Mary Pilates. If it is not exactly what Joseph H. Pilates taught in
his studio, then it is NOT Pilates. Our studio, equipment and all methods
we use are modeled after the original Pilates studio and of course,
Mary Pilates is our executive director and made sure we adhered
to the original Pilates principles. |
| Q: |
What qualifications does one
need to teach Pilates? |
| A: |
Choose your studio and instructor carefully.
Like every other profession, it takes thousands of hours and years of
training under qualified teachers to master Pilates well enough to become
an instructor. Shy away from those who get their "certifications" over
the internet or at weekend seminars without any further training. |
