Parkland Pilates Event to Launch Free Pilates in Public
Schools Initiative
GET INVOLVED FOR THE SAKE OF THE KIDS!
Coral Springs, Florida - Parkland Pilates is hosting
an open house on Saturday, May 6, 2006, 12-4 PM, in order to raise awareness
of the nation's increasing inactivity. All donations raised by Parkland
Pilates this day will support the new ground-breaking exercise initiative called "Healthy
Movement for Life" to bring free Pilates exercise classes to children
in public schools.
More than a third of young people in grades 9-12 do not regularly
engage in vigorous physical activity, according to the Center for Disease Control.
Studies have found that a short Pilates exercise routine once a week not only
improved the children's physical fitness, but also resulted in increased
mental focus and productivity in the classroom.
Through "Healthy Movement for Life," Parkland
Pilates will help realize Joseph and Clara Pilates' dream that children
learn to exercise using Joe's ideas and concepts. The program will be
part of a public outreach initiative as 501(c) 3 public charity.
Fran Perel, owner and certified Pilates instructor, plans to voluntarily teach
Pilates in soon-to-be named Coral Springs and Parkland schools. Fran believes
by taking part in this innovative and sensible approach to health and well-being,
she can have a profound impact on the youth of America. Pilates can help kids
learn to love and care for their bodies, and grow into happy, healthy, balanced
adults.
Parkland Pilates is hosting this exciting event and playing
an important part in the movement to change the direction of the nation's
health in the most important way possible: the education of parents. We hope
to enable them to pass their knowledge and experience on to their children
and function as role models. By attending our Open House, adult visitors to
the studio will be able to get involved for the sake of the kids and take part
in free Pilates mat classes (pre-registration required), free Pilates demonstrations
and lectures, free snacks, refreshments and gifts.
Joseph Pilates said, "Physical fitness is the first
requsite of happiness." Joseph believed Pilates was "the foundation
of an overall healthy lifestyle and its principals should be incorporated
as early as possible, so that they become a natural part of everyday function."
